Eye Exams for All Ages

We understand the importance of regular eye exams, especially for children and seniors. In Alberta, eye exams for children aged 18 and under, as well as seniors over 65, are covered by Alberta Health Care. Your child's visual health is crucial, and we recommend the following schedule for their eye exams:

  • 6 Months of Age: It's never too early to start. We recommend your child's first eye exam at just 6 months of age to address ocular and neurodevelopment.
  • 3 Years Old: Another critical milestone in your child's development. A thorough eye exam at this age can detect potential issues early.
  • Yearly After School Starts: Consistent, annual check-ups are essential to monitor your child's vision as they grow and learn.

Even beyond the recommended schedule, follow-up exams that may be needed more frequently are also covered by Alberta Health Care. We understand that vision plays a vital role in your child's learning, accounting for up to 80% of their educational development. Certain eye conditions, such as amblyopia (commonly known as "lazy eye"), can be effectively treated while your child is still in the developmental stage. Our optometrists are equipped to provide specialized treatments, including eye patching and vision therapy, to help your child reach their full potential.

Adult Eye Care

As we age, changes in our eyes and vision are inevitable. One of the most significant changes, known as presbyopia, typically begins in our early 40s. With presbyopia, near vision weakens, and many individuals find themselves holding reading material farther away or needing more light. At True Vision, our optometrists can recommend solutions to address these age-related vision changes, such as progressive lenses or office lenses, ensuring that your daily activities are as comfortable and clear as possible.
